The Zoom! teeth whitening procedure begins with the isolation of the gums from the teeth, which protects the delicate periodontal tissues from harm. A hydrogen-peroxide-based gel is then applied to the surfaces of the teeth. When this gel is exposed to the proprietary Zoom! light, the gel breaks down and penetrates the protective enamel layer of the teeth. This is necessary to achieving the best results, as the most stubborn stains reside beneath the enamel, which is why they cannot be removed by brushing and flossing.

It is the hydrogen peroxide within the Zoom! gel that destroys the carbon bonds responsible for the stains caused by coffee, tea, tobacco, soda, red wine, tomato sauce, and other staining agents. The gel remains on the teeth for 15 minutes and then is removed. After a brief period, the gel is reapplied, and the process is repeated. After three 15-minute cycles, the teeth whitening procedure is complete.

Zoom! teeth whitening is most effective at eliminating surface stains that are yellowish in color; however, virtually any stain will become lighter after treatment. On average, patients experience smiles that are three shades whiter after a single treatment session. Results can last for two years or even longer with good oral hygiene and routine visits to our practice for oral exams and professional cleanings.
